Day-by-day: Reparenting yourself with gentleness, love, fun, and respect.

Along my journey, I have struggled with food, weight, and eating disorders. This is very common for adult children, those who require reparenting... We often lacked the role models for us to learn how to take care of ourselves. Some of us became our parents' parent, and some of us were tasked with watching children and others younger than us. This was inappropriate, and it stole from us the capacity to learn to take care of our needs - including food and nutrition.

As a result of struggling with weight issues, at my peak I was just over 320lbs (145kg), I have had to find a way to overcome bulimia on my own. This was my longest lasting eating disorder which persisted over 10 years. I over came this by becoming obsessed with gym and fitness. I now have a strong routine to go to gym first thing in the morning, after meditation and journaling. It realy gives me an energy bost, lifts my mood, and gives me confidence. It's an excellent way to shake off the morning Abandonment Depression, the Abandonment Depression Melange (see Pete Walker).

I also routinely track my food each day in MyFitnessPal. This app is not sponsoring me or the podcast, but it is an excellent tool that I have used each day to be mindful of my calorie intake, and to check the levels of macros I consume each day. When you have a busy mind, with ADHD or OCD, for example, it can become difficult to know if you're eating enough of the right foods. MyFitnessPal makes that so much easier! It does take some work and discipline, but if you stick with it I assure you the benefits will be great.

Thanks for your support, and I hope you find this a safe and nurturing place for your recovery! We've got this!

Yours truly,

Khalil
